MAIN ROLES:
At the central government level, there are a number of national agencies that help in various ways to implement alcohol, narcotics, doping and tobacco (ANDT) policy. The Public Health Agency of Sweden is a central agency that have the expertise to support those working in the area at the local and regional level. Sweden also has a regional organisation comprising 21 county administrative boards that coordinate and support the implementation of the ANDT strategy in each county. The government funds a special ANDT coordinator position for each of the county administrative boards. The Public Health Agency is responsible for supporting the implementation of the overall ANDT strategy. The assignment includes promoting national coordination among the 14 national agencies involved in the implementation of the ANDT strategy as well as supporting effective and evidence-based work by producing and disseminating evidence-based material.

  • Coordinating drug prevention
  • Decision-making in drug prevention (Including development of policies)

  • Funding drug and alcohol prevention
  • Developing drug prevention programmes and/or policies
  • Monitoring drug prevention interventions or programmes
  • Supervising the implementation of drug prevention (e.g. providing advice and guidance)
  • Conducting prevention research e.g. evaluation of drug prevention programmes, epidemiological studies in the general and student population

THE ORGANIZATION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:
  • building and conveying expertise within the narcotics area to relevant stakeholders
  • promoting coordination of the work within the narcotics area at the national level
  • monitoring i.e. serving as a national focal point for cooperation with the EMCDDA and UNODC and Pompidou Group
  • examining and monitoring the need of classification of new psychoactive substances and certain goods hazardous to health
